You went in for dinner ingredients. You came home with a plan for a little time to yourself. This golden body polish combines fine brown sugar, honey and sunflower oil in a small batch you mix just before using.
The appeal is the process as much as the finished bowl: stir, set out a clean towel, and give an ordinary evening a small ritual. No special equipment or fragrance shopping required.
What this recipe can do
Sugar provides physical exfoliation, which removes surface dead skin and may leave skin feeling smoother. The oil helps the mixture spread; honey gives it a thicker, cohesive texture. This homemade combination has not been clinically tested. It is not an acne treatment, and grocery-store honey is not a wound-care product.
Ingredients for one small session
- 2 tablespoons fine light brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon plain honey
- 1 teaspoon plain sunflower oil
Use fine sugar rather than large, coarse crystals. You will also need a clean small bowl, a teaspoon and a clean towel. This makes enough to try on a small body area rather than a whole-body batch.
Make it step by step
- Break up the sugar. Press out any hard lumps with the back of the spoon.
- Stir in the honey. Fold until the sugar is evenly coated.
- Add the oil. Stir into a scoopable paste. If needed, add a few drops more oil rather than a large pour.
- Use a light touch. On damp, intact body skin, gently move a small amount in circles for no more than about 30 seconds. Do not use it on your face, lips or intimate areas.
- Rinse and finish. Rinse with lukewarm water, gently pat dry and apply your usual moisturizer.
Make it fresh
Mix only what you will use and discard the remainder. This recipe is fresh and has no preservation system, so make sure you toss anything you don't use!
Set out your towel before you start. Put your phone somewhere dry. Let this be a small, pleasant project instead of another task to perfect.
