Your hands spend the day doing things for everyone else. This recipe gives them a short, pleasantly cool pause with four ingredients from the grocery store.
Think of it as a fresh, rinse-off hand mask: a creamy mixture to spread lightly over the backs of your hands while you sit down for a few minutes.
The ingredients
- 1 tablespoon plain, unsweetened yogurt
- 1 teaspoon peeled cucumber puree
- 2 teaspoons very finely ground plain rolled oats
- ¼ teaspoon honey
This makes a small batch for one pair of hands. Use chilled yogurt and cucumber if you like a cooler feel.
Make it smooth
- Grind the oats to a fine powder. Blend or finely grate a small piece of peeled cucumber, then measure one teaspoon of puree.
- Stir the yogurt, cucumber and honey together in a clean bowl. Add the ground oats and stir again.
- Let the mixture stand for two minutes so the oats can thicken it. It should spread like a light paste. Add a pinch more ground oats if it drips.
- On clean, intact skin, spread a thin layer over the backs of your hands. Rest them on a washable towel for five minutes.
- Rinse gently with lukewarm water without scrubbing, pat dry, and finish with your usual hand cream.
- Make only what you need for this sitting and discard the remainder.
Why these four?
Yogurt supplies the creamy base. Cucumber adds water and a fresh texture. Finely ground oats help the mixture stay where you put it, while the small amount of honey gives it body. Keeping the quantities small makes it easier to rinse away.
Make the pause count
Set everything out first: a towel, your bowl, and hand cream for afterward. Then let the five minutes belong to you. You do not have to organize a drawer while the mixture sits.
A favorite Finchberry hand cream can be the finishing touch once your hands are clean and dry.
